Blue Jaguar Medicine Arts

Welcomes You to The Healing Kiva

"It's supposed to be a professional secret, but I'll tell you anyway.  We doctors do nothing.  We only help and encourage the doctor within."   -----Albert Schweitzer

Traditionally, the "kiva" was a very private, sometimes underground, medicine lodge where elders and wisdom keepers gathered to perform healings, conduct spiritual ceremonies, and make crucial decisions about the welfare of the clan.  The artworks on the walls were sacred, intended to represent as well as ground the multidimensional energies invoked and utilized in the ceremonies.

Spiritual kivas exist everywhere; as portals of light and goodwill they help conduct essential frequencies circulating between the cosmos and the planet. They are as intergalactic in scope as they are earth-based in locale.

Choosing higher alignments in one's life, becoming passionately proactive with one's own well-being, is an exciting imperative of our times.  Success stories of those who have maintained as well as restored their health  through power of mind, clear intention, natural living and creativity inspire an inquiry into the fundamental components of human vitality itself.

How exactly do we tap our being's own innate curative forces?  How do we reclaim our spirit, our sense of joy, of unity with the natural world, our sense of purpose? How do we find the best way to share our unique gifts with each other and the world at large?

Such is the spiritual, intellectual and creative thrust of our healing kiva.

Eduardo Griego Gonzales has been a student of the Maya science since he met a white wolf in Tzimayo (Chimayo, New Mexico). After their meeting, Ed was told a story by the elders who live there that changed his life. This story was whispered in his ear as he sat outside the Rancho de Chimayo restaurant in the sun and from this time his life was taken over by the desire to learn more about the Ancient MAYA teachings. This desire led him on a journey traveling and working with a Maya Elder in Antigua, Guatemala over the next seven years, until he was initiated as an AJ QIIJ, or "Counter of the Days", on the Sacred Path of Water and the Sacred Path of Fire, in the tradition of the Qui'che Maya. Eduardo can pass on some of his learning through his talks about the CHOL QIIJ, the Sacred Calendar of the Maya, and its application to the lives of human beings living on this planet at this time.  He is also available for Limpias (cleanses) using water, candles and eggs, used to clean away disease from the mind and aura. Understanding that it is each person who heals themself, Eduardo creates the space for healing to take place, acting as the channel for the Limpia.

"What you believe will be, and when you can overcome fear, the true healing will occur. The body does what the mind says to do, so by bringing the mind back to balance, healing begins. This is the true essence of both the Maya teaching, and other indigenous teachings-- The Balance of Energy."

  Raven Jones

is an ayurvedic practitioner in Sonoma County, Northern California, counseling people on diet, lifestyle and alternative cancer therapies, as well as the mind/body/spirit connection which is the heart of all true healing.  He is self publishing his book 'Dancing with the Dragon': Healing Cancer with Ayurveda and Alternative Medicine'  in 2010.

In his own words: "On a bright July day, I met my long awaited soul mate. We fell instantly and irrevocably in love.  We spent all our time together, made plans to be married and bought a house to fix up. Two years later, to the day, she became ill with cancer, and nine months later she was dead.  I was exhausted and in shock.  She was gone and my life felt empty and meaningless.  I went to the forest to bury my grief, which was so painful that I had a secret desire to die too.  Two years later I was diagnosed with the same rare cancer that had taken my beloved. I was afraid.  I went to the doctor who tried to burn it out of me. When this didn't work, he moved to cut off my right leg as a proper solution; this I declined.

As a walker of the shore and a climber of mountains,  I needed my leg to worship the Goddess of Nature, and searched for alternative ways to heal myself.  My journey led to India and the 5,000 year old traditional medicine called "Ayurveda". After a long time I went back to the forest and moved the boulder that lay on top of my grief and nursed it, until gradually it faded slowly into light and became part of me.  Five years later, I give thanks every new day for waking up healthy and whole and being given the opportunity to guide others on the path to heal themselves by coming into balance with nature and their Mind/Body/Spirit connection. Only when we listen deeply to our body's questions are we given the answers to true healing." Namaste!

Artist Ilene Kratka of Maui, Hawaii, has made many art collectors happy with her provocative bronzes and ceramic sculptures, intended to convey the spirit of hope, healing, and triumph.  She shares with us the following story of how the practice of art and creativity helped her in her own healing process.

"I want to talk about how being creative in times of crisis takes one out of the despair of the moment and into the realm of creative challenge.  When I've been very distraught about a situation I find myself in, if I try to write a haiku poem about it, the challenge of creating a poem that works takes me completely out of the "problem" and into a world where when I'm finished, if I've done a good job with expressing myself, I'm simply proud of my accomplishment to the point where I've nearly forgotten the pain of the moment. There was a time when I was suffering with terrible depression for a year and six months.  At the end of this time, I ran into a very wise man who asked me what kind of creative work i was doing about my depression.  "Oh I don't work when I feel this way" I replied.  "Well you should!  Do you know how many thousands of people are suffering from depression? And how comforted they would be if they thought someone else knew how they felt? It's your obligation as an artist to share this with the rest of the world."  As soon as he talked about how I could help people by expressing myself, I could feel my mind, which had been asleep for one and a half years, begin to work on the challenge.  His coaxing released me from the depression. By the next morning, the depression had completely lifted and  I ended up sculpting a triptych called "In the Bag and Out!"  It stands as one of my best achievements even today. I've really never gone back to being in that state again, because I can still hear his encouraging words about what I have to offer to the world as an artist. Now I try to honor that and give what I can give. I feel blessed to be able to use my creativity to reach people. "
